Challenge: Placer Arts came to Advantage Marketing for a redesign of to their yearly program highlighting the artists in Placer County. They requested a program that represented the work of each artist, along with custom maps that would show the locations of each show. The program needed to be updated to reflect their brand, and to highlight each artist in a fair and equal way by not highlighting one’s work over another.
Solution: The first suggestion made was to update the placer arts identity; the current identity did not have the feeling of an artist collective and was visually dull. Working with the board they had an artist create a leaf drawing that was then vectorized, and updated to create a more memorable identity mark. The leaves were also used as a graphic element throughout their program.

After much deliberation, we also came to the decision that a more conservative layout would keep the information readable, and also better highlight each artist’s work in a fair and equal way. Many complaints were made in regards to last year’s program which some artist’s work seemed to be more prominent than others.

As the client requested, a custom map was created for the center spread was then split and placed to their respective chapters to give readers a more detailed location for each show. Color coordination was also set up for each area and the artist residing in that location.
