Challenge: A student group asked me to create a poster for an upcoming civil rights presentation at the Humboldt State campus. The main objective as requested from the client was to help raise awareness to improve the overall attendance of the event. The other main request of the client was that the design’s final output needed to be printed in black and white (because of budget restraints)
Solution: After compiling and analyzing the information provided to me by the clients, I felt that because the college would likely have a large amount of advertising for other events we should contrast the trend of heavy gradient usage and computer generated design with more of a hand drawn/vintage aesthetic. The design incorporates hand drawn typography with minimal support from computer generated graphic elements to produce a striking and successful print campaign. Not only were the clients extremely happy but it was noted that attendance at the presentation was “greater than expected”.
